Frequently Asked Questions
About the Deck
What makes Patch Tarot different from other tarot decks?
Patch Tarot wasn't modeled after any single deck. It observed the Rider-Waite-Smith, the Thoth Tarot, the Hermetic Tarot, and others — and unified their wisdom into a single, coherent system. Every card contains astrology, Qabalah, numerology, and sacred geometry woven directly into the art, so the more you study, the more you find. Patch Tarot 3 also includes the Holy Arcana: four additional cards that point beyond the Tree of Life itself.
What makes the holographic treatment of Patch Tarot 3 special?
Patch Tarot 3 is built on a holographic foil base that shimmers and shifts with the light. The artwork was painstakingly designed with varying levels of transparency — backgrounds, borders, and key mystical elements are semi-transparent, allowing the rainbow holographic to blaze through, while figures and certain detailed art remain crisp and vivid.
The result is a living, light-responsive deck where the holographic feels like it's woven into the imagery rather than applied over it. It sometimes took up to a full day to get a single card looking right. No other tarot deck has attempted this approach.
What is the Holy Arcana?
The Holy Arcana is unique to Patch Tarot. It consists of four special cards — The Way, The Truth, The Life, and The All — representing aspects of reality beyond the Tree of Life itself. These correspond to Ain, Ain Soph, Ain Soph Aur, and the Name of God (YHVH). They're included not as cards to read in the traditional sense, but as invitations to contemplate the absolute ground of being.
Unlike all other cards in the deck, the Holy Arcana remain inherently benevolent even in reversal — they have no shadow correspondence in the Qliphoth. They can be included in readings, or used as altarpieces in your home to create sacred space.
What is the Ascended Tree of Life?
The Ascended Tree of Life is a refinement introduced in Patch Tarot 3. It brings the classic Kabbalistic Tree of Life into greater geometric coherence with the Flower of Life — one of the foundational patterns of sacred geometry. The paths between the sephiroth have been recalibrated so that the Tree sits more naturally within the flower, creating a more harmonious and visually unified structure throughout the card art.
How many cards are in the deck?
Patch Tarot contains 86 cards, broken into four families:
- Major Arcana — 26 cards (The Fool through The Universe, plus The Child)
- Holy Arcana — 4 cards (The Life, The Truth, The Way, The All)
- Minor Arcana — 40 cards (Ace through Ten in Wands, Cups, Swords, Coins)
- Royal Arcana — 16 cards (King, Queen, Prince, Princess × 4 suits)
Why are there three Magician cards?
In Patch Tarot, Card I — The Magician — has three variants: The Alchemist (Body), The Wizard (Mind), and The Mystic (Spirit). This reflects the understanding that the power of creation operates across all three dimensions of being. Together they represent the complete Magician archetype. You can use all three in your deck, or choose one that resonates most with your current focus.
"I've studied tarot for over a decade and Patch Tarot answered questions I didn't even know I had about the structure of the deck. The Holy Arcana especially changed how I understand the whole system."

Using the Cards
Is Patch Tarot 3 good for beginners?
Yes. The card art is designed so that the imagery reflects the meaning — you can sense what a card is about just by looking at it, even before reading any description. The mini booklet included gives quick references for every card. And if you want to go deeper, The Book of Patch is a comprehensive guide that'll take you from beginner to advanced practitioner.
You can also start right here — try a single-card daily draw or explore the full Card Library with descriptions for every card.
Do I need to believe in anything specific to use Patch Tarot?
Not at all. Tarot adapts to whatever framework you bring to it. Some readers use it as a spiritual tool. Others use it for psychological reflection or journaling. The cards hold universal archetypes that are relevant across spiritual traditions and to those with no religious background whatsoever. Come as you are.
What does a reversed card mean?
A reversed card doesn't mean something is "bad" — it indicates that the energy of the card is turned inward, blocked, or operating in an unbalanced way. The Book of Patch covers each card's reversed meaning in depth, including its correspondence with the Qliphoth (the shadow aspects of the Tree of Life). Every card in the Card Library also shows both upright and reversed keywords.
How do I care for my tarot deck?
There's no single right way — but common practices include keeping your deck in a dedicated cloth or box, cleansing it periodically (some people use moonlight, sound, smoke, or intention), and handling it mindfully. The most important thing is developing a relationship with the cards through consistent use. They'll reward your attention.
"These cards are beautifully and mindfully made. You can feel the amount of time, effort, presence, and love that went into each one. This is my absolute favorite deck I own."
